Tronex Tools are Here!

Updated: May 24, 2020

Hi Everyone!

I'm very excited to announce that 3D Metal Tools now offers Tronex Tools! We currently have stock of Tronex Razor Flush Cutters, two types of Chain Nose Pliers, two types of Flat Nose Pliers, Needlenose Pliers, Bent Chain Nose Pliers, and Round Nose Pliers.

A little backstory. For about 13 years now, I have run a company that manufactures high-end fountain pens. Within this career, high quality jewelry-caliber tools are an absolute must. Especially when it comes to adjusting and custom grinding fountain pen nibs. So I've been in a trade for a long time now where quality tools that can achieve dead-on precision with the utmost of accuracy on a small scale is of paramount importance.

So as a penmaker/nibmeister, I've tried tools by all companies. Whether it's cheap tools from China or Pakistan, or the best tools from Germany or the US, I've used them all. I've sampled them all not only out of necessity for my career, but I also happen to be a tool junkie! I love buying new tools in search of the best for each application and evaluating which tool is the best considering all factors. These factors include efficacy, cost, longevity, ergonomics, aesthetics, among other topics.

In my years of searching for the best tools, no company has exceeded Tronex. So you can imagine that I was very excited when Tronex agreed to allow me to become a distributor of their tools.

Tronex tools are made in Fairfield, CA by a relatively small team of toolmakers, most of which have more than 10 years experience with the company. Actually, I get a kick out of checking out the live webcam every so often to see what they are up to. Every tool that they sell is thoroughly inspected and test cuts are made with all flush cutters prior to shipping. Tronex warrants their tools to be free from defects in material and workmanship for the life of the tool.

Tronex tools are more expensive than imported tools, and I won't lie...they aren't always necessary for every task required to make 3D Metal Models. There are instances where an imported cheaper tool will work just as well if all that you are after is strict utility. There are also instances (especially flush cutters) where Tronex gets my only recommendation. I will always be forthcoming about these situations and make our customers aware of the pros and cons of each tool so that they can make the best decision. Considering that cheaper tools can also perform a lot of tasks for building models, 3D Metal Tools will soon be offering imported tools which will be priced lower. However, the Covid pandemic has provided for a lot of delays in my acquisition of these imported tools, as some suppliers are currently shut down.

So Tronex are by far the best tools that I have ever found, and I'm very proud to be offering them as our top-of-the-line tools. But stay tuned, as we will have an "economy" line of imported tools as well. When those arrive, I will be making lots of videos showing the pros and cons of the imported tools vs Tronex tools. This way, you'll have all the information needed to decide which is the best for choice for you based on all factors.

Lastly, I am currently working on video tutorials on how I personally use each tool for 3D Metal Models, so stay tuned!

Happy Modeling!
